Dhwani Academy of Percussion Music

Empowering Harmony and Transforming Lives

Welcome to “Dhwani Academy”, a premier non-profit charitable organization in the U.S. started in Southern California in 2004, dedicated to promoting Indian Traditional Music, with a special emphasis on Indian Percussion Art.  The Academy is focused on nurturing, enrichment and exploration of Indian Traditional Music in its various beautiful manifestations. An institution dedicated to preserving and promoting Indian classical music, while fostering a culture of inclusivity, community out-reach, and cross-cultural exchange with special reference to percussion instruments.

In this endeavor to generate a global awareness, “Dhwani Academy” takes different approaches such as collaboration with internationally acclaimed Musicians, Music Institutes, arranging cultural exchange programs, organizing International Festivals and many more. The Academy also wishes to undertake programs to explore the vast repertoire of musical traditions of different countries to cultivate awareness in the communities to educate them about their own Rich Traditions.

Our mission is to preserve, explore and share the vibrant rhythms of Indian classical and folk music with the world. We impart high-quality percussion music education facilitating transformations of a student in to an “Artist”. As part of our social responsibility, we reach out to physically challenged students to light their talent and help to secure future for them. We firmly believe that “Music has the power to transform lives”, and we strive to create a platform for young talents to shine and reach new heights.

Our programs and initiatives include:

  • Percussion music- classes for students of all ages and abilities

  • Tabla sessions for physically challenged students

  • Community outreach programs, including music workshops, and performances

  • Collaborations with international musicians and music schools

  • Annual music festivals and concerts showcasing young talents

Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty (Hindustani Vocal)

Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty

Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty is a renowned Indian vocalist, celebrated for his mastery over classical, light-classical, and modern vocal music. Born in 1953 in Calcutta, he began his musical journey at the age of three under the guidance of his father, Shri Ajit Chakrabarty. He further trained with distinguished maestros like Shri Pannalal Samanta, Shri Kanai Das Bairagi, and Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh. His pivotal training with Ustad Munawar Ali Khan, son of the legendary Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, shaped his musical career.

A graduate of Rabindra Bharati University, Pandit Chakrabarty has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan (2020), Padma Shri (2011), and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1999-2000). He was also honored with the Kumar Gandharva National Award and National Tansen Samman. Beyond his performances, he is a respected teacher, researcher, composer, lyricist, and music director. As a senior faculty member at the Sangeet Research Academy, he continues to inspire the next generation of musicians

Arun Ramamurthi

a senior disciple of Carnatic maestro Delhi Shri P. Sunder Rajan, began his musical journey at age 4 with Western classical training. As one of India's top violin accompanists, he has performed with legends like Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan and Sudha Raghunathan. A passionate educator, Arun founded Maarga USA in 2015 to support young talent and has served on the board of SIMA in Los Angeles. His performances blend classical tradition with innovation, enriching audiences with every note.

Shubha Chandramouli

Shubha Chandramouli is an emerging Carnatic music artist who has accompanied renowned musicians globally. Trained in vocal Carnatic music by her mother, she has also given concerts worldwide. An MBA graduate from Boston University, she works as a Consultant at Ernst & Young.

Meher Paralikar

Meher Paralikar started his musical journey under renowned gurus and later studied with Padmashree Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty. A Senior Scholar at ITC Sangeet Research Academy, he has received numerous awards. He has performed at prestigious events across India.

Soumen Sarkar

Soumen Sarkar is a highly skilled tabla player, known for his dedication, talent, and experience. His global performances include extensive tours across the U.S. and South Asia, featuring in concerts and festivals. Additionally, he conducts workshops at schools and colleges.

Gourab Chatterjee

Gourab Chatterjee has performed at major concert festivals across India and internationally, including the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, and Sri Lanka. He is not only a talented vocalist but also a renowned harmonium accompanist. His expertise in both fields has earned him widespread recognition.
